Reference translation
The Wanderer: slight success; the wandering brings good fortune through perseverance. The Commentary on the Judgment says: "The Wanderer has slight success." The yielding attains the central place in the outer trigram and submits to the firm; it rests still and cleaves to brightness. Therefore it is said, "Slight success; the wandering through perseverance brings good fortune." Great indeed is the meaning of the time of Wandering. The Commentary on the Image says: Fire upon the mountain — the image of the Wanderer. Thus the superior man, with clarity and caution, applies punishments, and does not let lawsuits linger.

Context from the authority layer
The *Shuo Gua* says, "Gen represents the narrow path," and "Li represents fire." The hexagram *Lü* has Gen below and Li above, presenting an image of brightness attached to a "narrow path." For this reason, the *Xiang Zhuan* holds that the *Lü* hexagram, in which "the yielding attains the central position outside and accords with the firm," carries a "great significance." This "great significance" lies in traveling within brightness and spreading brightness through traveling. However, popular interpretation takes *Lü* as "the image of a bird whose nest is consumed by fire.
