3 · Zhun · Difficulty at the Beginning

The Commentary on the Decision says: Difficulty at the Beginning shows the firm and the yielding first meeting, and movement arising amidst peril. Through peril it yet wins through, supreme success following firm correctness. When thunder and rain fill heaven and earth, Heaven brings forth the ten thousand things out of darkness.

"Tun" symbolizes the moment when thunder and rain shake the world, when a single yang line is born within water, within the pit, giving rise to all things out of obscurity.

4 · Meng · Youthful Folly

Youthful Folly leads to success. It is not I who seek the young fool; the young fool seeks me. At the first oracle I instruct. If he asks two or three times, it is importunity. To importunity I give no instruction. Perseverance furthers.

The hexagram Meng carries both the meaning of childish ignorance and the image of engaging a teacher for enlightenment. Being young and unenlightened, the child has questions to ask.

What the 综卦 relation actually says

The local structured corpus records Hexagram 3's 综卦 (zong gua, inverse) as Hexagram 4, and Hexagram 4's inverse as Hexagram 3. In the corpus's stored six-line sequence, 010100 becomes 001010 when the order is reversed. Turning the figure end for end changes line positions while preserving each line's yin or yang polarity.
