Compare Hexagram 37 Jia Ren (The Family) and Hexagram 38 Kui (Opposition) as a zong gua inverse pair: reversed line order changes viewing direction without forecasting a transition.
The Family. It is favorable for the woman to hold fast to the right. The Commentary on the Judgment says: In the Family, the woman holds her correct place within, and the man holds his correct place without. That man and woman each keep their proper place is the great righteousness of Heaven and Earth.
This commentary reads Li below and Xun above as an image of entry into a household, using period-specific family roles to interpret Jiaren.
The Tuan says: In Kui, fire flames upward, while the waters of the marsh flow downward. Two women dwell together, yet their wills diverge and their ways are not the same. The lower trigram, joyous, cleaves with gladness to the brightness above; the yielding advances and moves upward, while the clinging, soft and central, responds below to the strong line...
In the hexagram Kui, Li sits above and Dui below; their aspirations do not move in the same direction, yet they occupy a single hexagram together, as if dwelling within a single room.
The local structured corpus records Hexagram 37's 综卦 (zong gua, inverse) as Hexagram 38, and Hexagram 38's inverse as Hexagram 37. In the corpus's stored six-line sequence, 011101 becomes 101110 when the order is reversed. Turning the figure end for end changes line positions while preserving each line's yin or yang polarity.
Draw 011101 and 101110 in two columns, reverse the first sequence, and verify the match. Then copy one concrete phrase from the reference layer for Jia Ren and one from Kui; name one observable condition supporting each lens, choose one reversible check, and write what evidence would make you review the choice.
A zong gua pair is not a before-and-after promise. Jia Ren does not automatically become Kui; reversed structure neither ranks the two figures nor says which one must follow.
