Compare Hexagram 43 Guai (Breakthrough) and Hexagram 44 Gou (Coming to Meet) as a zong gua inverse pair: reversed line order changes viewing direction without forecasting a transition.
The Image says: The waters of the marsh rise as vapor to heaven — the image of Breakthrough. Thus the superior man dispenses bounty downward, as the marsh pours rain from heaven. To let men of virtue dwell at home unrewarded by the prince's emolument — this the superior man holds in dread.
The Image and the Judgment of the hexagram Guai differ considerably in their elaboration of the hexagram's meaning, as the Zhengyi states: "Guai has two senses.
Coming to Meet. The maiden is powerful. One should not marry such a maiden. The Commentary on the Decision says: Coming to Meet means encountering; the yielding meets the firm. "One should not marry such a maiden" — for one cannot long endure with her. When heaven and earth meet, all creatures stand forth in splendor.
This commentary cites Han-period Admonitions for Women to explain firmness and yielding through prescribed male and female virtues.
The local structured corpus records Hexagram 43's 综卦 (zong gua, inverse) as Hexagram 44, and Hexagram 44's inverse as Hexagram 43. A zong gua pair is not a before-and-after promise. Guai does not automatically become Gou; reversed structure neither ranks the two figures nor says which one must follow.
