59 · Huan · Dispersion

DISPERSION. Success. The king approaches his ancestral temple. It furthers one to cross the great water. It furthers one to be persevering. The Commentary on the Decision says: "Dispersion. Success." The firm comes and is not exhausted; the yielding attains its place without and accords with that above.

Because the Huan hexagram has the firm line coming to occupy the central position, what is dispersed are unfavorable things such as petty people, cold ice, and yin energy.

60 · Jie · Limitation

Limitation. Success. But galling limitation must not be persevered in. The Commentary says: "Limitation brings success." The firm and the yielding are divided, and the firm holds the central place. "Galling limitation must not be persevered in" — for such a way is exhausted. With gladness one walks the path of danger.

From the fourth and fifth lines upward, the line statements distinguish between "contented restraint," "sweet restraint," and "bitter restraint.

What the 综卦 relation actually says

The local structured corpus records Hexagram 59's 综卦 (zong gua, inverse) as Hexagram 60, and Hexagram 60's inverse as Hexagram 59. In the corpus's stored six-line sequence, 011010 becomes 010110 when the order is reversed. Turning the figure end for end changes line positions while preserving each line's yin or yang polarity.
