Compare Hexagram 63 Ji Ji (After Completion) and Hexagram 64 Wei Ji (Before Completion) as a zong gua inverse pair: reversed line order changes viewing direction without forecasting a transition.
After completion. Success in small matters; it furthers one to be persevering. At the beginning, good fortune; at the end, disorder. The Tuan says: "After completion, success" — small matters find their way through. "It furthers one to be persevering" — the firm and the yielding are correct, and each stands in its proper place.
All six lines of Jiji occupy correct positions and each finds its proper correspondence, so affairs both great and small attain success.
Wei Chi indicates that before completion, success is possible: striving brings progress. The little fox, almost across the stream, wets its tail. There is nothing that furthers. The Commentary says: "Before Completion, success" — for the yielding obtains the central place.
