How does the cast work?
The Time method derives the hexagram and moving line from the current year, month, day, and hour using the classical "plum-blossom" (mei hua yi shu) numerology. The Numbers method takes three of your numbers and runs the same arithmetic. Both produce a deterministic, repeatable result for the same inputs.
Why is the AI sometimes unavailable?
Yarrow caps each device at 30 AI readings per day. This protects the cost of the language model behind the optional AI reading. The counter resets at midnight UTC. If you hit the cap, the rest of the app — casting, hexagram catalog, Yilin notes, journal, and classical sources — still works locally.
Does Yarrow work offline?
Yes. Casting, the 64-hexagram catalog, trigram attributes, related hexagrams, classical sources, Jiao Shi Yi Lin changing-hexagram notes, and your journal are all stored on your device and work offline. Only the optional AI reading needs the network.
Are the classical sources real?
Yes. The app bundles a local Yijing knowledge base with Yang Tian Cai, Duan Yi Tian Ji, baihua notes, Zhu Xi's Book of Changes, Jiao Shi Yi Lin, and trigram metadata. English translations are included where available; the Chinese original is available under the source cards.
