Frequently asked

How does the cast work?

The Time method derives the hexagram and moving line from the current year, month, day, and hour using the classical "plum-blossom" (mei hua yi shu) numerology. The Numbers method takes three of your numbers and runs the same arithmetic. Both produce a deterministic, repeatable result for the same inputs.

Why is the AI sometimes unavailable?

Yarrow caps each device at 30 readings per day. This protects the cost of the language model behind the AI reading. The counter resets at midnight UTC. If you hit the cap, the rest of the app — hexagram catalog, journal, classical sources — still works.

Does Yarrow work offline?

Casting, the hexagram catalog, the classical sources, and your journal are all on-device and work offline. Only the AI reading needs the network.

Are the classical sources real?

Yes. The translations are drawn from a corpus of nineteen classical Chinese I-Ching commentaries (Yang Tian Cai, Duan Yi Tian Ji, baihua notes, Zhu Xi's Book of Changes, and others), translated into English. The Chinese original is available on tap under each card.

Is this financial / medical / legal advice?

No. Yarrow is for reflection and entertainment only. Please consult qualified professionals for those decisions.
