Compare Hexagram 49 Ge (Revolution) and Hexagram 50 Ding (The Cauldron) as a zong gua inverse pair: reversed line order changes viewing direction without forecasting a transition.
Revolution. On the appointed day, the change wins men's trust. Sublime success. Furtherance through perseverance. Remorse vanishes. The Commentary: Revolution. Water and fire annihilate each other. Two daughters dwell together, but their wills do not accord — this is called Revolution.
In the Ge hexagram, amid the upheaval caused by the conflicting forces of "water and fire shooting at each other," only the nine-in-the-fourth line is out of position.
The Cauldron: renewal through the sacred vessel. Supreme good fortune. Success. The Commentary on the Judgment says: The Cauldron is an image. Wood enters fire, and thus food is cooked. The sage cooks offerings to honor the Supreme Deity, and cooks abundantly to nourish the worthy and wise.
Using the ding vessel to provide food and nourish the worthy is the mission of the ding. Wood beneath with fire above represents the act of cooking; the vessel is known through the activity associated with it.
The local structured corpus records Hexagram 49's 综卦 (zong gua, inverse) as Hexagram 50, and Hexagram 50's inverse as Hexagram 49. In the corpus's stored six-line sequence, 110101 becomes 101011 when the order is reversed. Turning the figure end for end changes line positions while preserving each line's yin or yang polarity.
Draw 110101 and 101011 in two columns, reverse the first sequence, and verify the match. Then copy one concrete phrase from the reference layer for Ge and one from Ding; name one observable condition supporting each lens, choose one reversible check, and write what evidence would make you review the choice.
A zong gua pair is not a before-and-after promise. Ge does not automatically become Ding; reversed structure neither ranks the two figures nor says which one must follow.
